Family Background


The most eminent Mashaikh within the Al-Gillani Family were those who had descended from Hazoor Shaykh Syedna Abdul Aziz Al-Gillani, the noble son of Hazoor Syedna Ghous e Azzam(ra). The descendents of Hazoor Shaykh Syedna Abdul Aziz Al-Gillani(ra) had the honour of being Custodians of Darbar e Ghousia and running all administration and managements affairs relating to the Darbar Shareef.

The responsibilities and duties of Naqeeb ul Ashraaf includes administration and management of all affairs related to Darbar Shareef, catering for the day to day needs of pilgrims, distribution of food and charity within the poor and needy and welcoming visitors. The people of Iraq do not bow their heads before any king or accept any ruling authority as much as they accept the authority and spiritual power of the Naqeeb ul Ashraaf

The grandfather of Hazoor Pir Syedna Qudwatul Awliya(ra) were His Holliness, Qutb-ul-Aqtaab Naqeeb ul Ashraaf Shaykh Al-Syed Abd ar-Rahman Al-Mehaz  Al-Gillani Al-Qadri(ra). They had the unique honour of receiving Khilafat  in Tareeqat e Qadiria directly from Hazoor Syedna Ghous-e-Azzam(ra); which was confirmed by the different Awliya of the time. The people of Iraq wanted to elect them as the King but they declined but on the public insistence accepted the office of Prime Minster with a view to establish Islamic rule and liberate Iraq from the British. 

In their lifetime, they appointed their beloved son His Holiness Imaam ul Arifeen Shaykh Al-Syed Mahmood Hussamuddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani as their successor and the prestigious position of Naqeeb ul Ashraaf and trustee of Qadiria Auqaab. His Holiness Imaam ul Arifeen Shaykh Al-Syed Mahmood Hussamuddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani were born in 1281AH and were elected as Member of Assembly in the Iraq Parliament. They held many other High ranking posts in the Government of Iraq. They were extremely pious, generous and devoted to prayers and meditation. They always kept the service of Islam and propagation of Silsilah e Qadiria as their first preference through out their entire life and kept the interests and well-being of the people dear to their heart. 

His Holiness Imaam ul Arifeen Shaykh Al-Syed Mahmood Hussamuddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani had six sons and the youngest son was Naqeeb ul Ashraaf, Shaykh ul Mashaikh, Qudwatul Awliya,  Syed us Sadaat, Shehzadah e Ghous-e-Azzam(ra), His Holiness, Hazoor Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani Al-Baghdadi who were the Ghous and Qutb of their time and every aspect of their character and personality was a reflection of their ancestor Hazoor Ghous ul Azzam Shaykh ul Islam Abu Muhammad Mohyuddin Shaykh Syedna Abdul Qadir Jillani (ra).
